Ellie Catherine Long
Welcome to the Princess Ellie's Trust Website, a site especially designed to not only celebrate our daughter Ellie's life but to also raise awareness of the devastating illness that is Meningitis.
When my partner Dan and I lost our beautiful princess at only two years and one month old to septicemia caused by meningitis we decided to start our own charity in memory of her. Its a lovely way for everyone to get together and remember what a special and very unique little girl she was. We want to make her proud because she makes us so proud every minute of every day.
We raise money for the meningitis research foundation and the Paediatric Intensive Care unit at Newcastle General Hospital where our daughter was nursed. However, the ward has recently moved to The Royal Victoria Infirmary along with all the staff. So far we have raised, in total £35,200.18. Last year we handed over £16,500.00 of this. Because we are applying to become a registered charity we have not yet given the money raised last year to Meningitis Research Foundation and Paediatric Intensive Care Unit, because we have to retain a certain amount of money in Princess Ellie's Trust account. Hopefully we will receive a charity status soon and then we will be able to present them with their money. Which I am very proud to say is £18,700.18. Both our charity's are over the moon with everything we are doing for them and are in touch with us on a regular basis to let us know how things are going and what the money donated goes towards.
The reason we chose to raise money for Meningitis Research Foundation is probably obvious and we chose the PICU as they are a very busy little unit and have some amazing staff who do one of the hardest jobs in the world but do this with compassion and professionalism. Please read more about our charity's on our 'about our charity's' page.
Shortly after we lost Ellie we started planning Princess Ellie's Fun Day, the support we received was overwhelming, we couldn't have asked for more. I think it helped our family and friends as no one really knows what to do in devastating situations like ours and this was something they could all get involved with. We set up the charity bank account and named the charity Princess Ellie's Trust as she truly was a gorgeous little princess. The day went fantastically and hundreds turned out in the rain to support us. We couldn't believe how brilliantly it all went, we had one proud little angel that day, I'm sure of it. We raised an outstanding £16,500.00 between August and October and handed the cheques over to our charities, who couldn't believe the support we had received from family, friends and of course our community.
I would like to thank all our family and friends and everyone who has attended one of Princess Ellie's events for all the help and support we receive. Without you none of this would be possible.
Princess Ellie's Trust is very important to us and we are overwhelmed by the amount of support we have received.
